Jim Carrey: Don't Worry, Folks, I Didn't Slip Over the Edge

Someone please stop Jim Carrey before he tweets again. In the wake of his Twitter-announced split from Jenny McCarthy, the funnyman has used his apparently copious amounts of free time to post message after 140-characters-or-less message to his 700,000-plus followers.

We can only hope his publicist, agent and/or legal counsel are able to cut him off soon, because his rampant tweeting has sparked speculation that he's in the midst of some sort of psychological episode, which he insists isn't the case.

"Don't worry folks. I didn't slip over the edge," he assured everyone on Wednesday morning. "I'm just movin' the boundries [sic] for the rest of you nuts!"

A few minutes earlier, Carrey observed, "Ahhh...pretty day! Think I'll have breakfast, feed the dogs'n'excersize. Oh, I better be careful. If they read this they'll know I'm insane! "

His quips follow a related post from a couple days back, when he said, "This is no breakdown! It's a

breakthrough! And if you'll just loosen these straps, I'll show you the difference!"

Yes, mental health jokes are comedy gold.

Despite his seemingly lighthearted attitude, the actor doesn't seem to appreciate the implication that anything is amiss.

"First, I'm healthier than I've ever been," he declared in the wee hours of Wednesday morning in response to a follower's missive (the tweet that set him off is protected). "Second, I haven't been depressed or taken anti depressents [sic] for years. Third ***

He later repeated that he's been living depression and anti-depressant-free and promised, "Soon I'll help others by writing about the alternative to uptake inhibitors that helped me. Imagine using your writing skills to help people? What a concept! "

Carrey also appears to be philosophical about the mixed response to his tweets.

"To anyone whose grievances have chosen me as their cause, I would say first, that I recognize that tendency in myself, but if you knew me well, you'd see that your resentment has been misplaced," he wrote on Tuesday. "I wish every human being

nothing but love and immeasurable happiness. Now, I'm going to re-enter the Twitter stream and see if there is anyone left to offend!"

Our wish? That we could go back to the days when celebrities had an air of mystery thanks to an army of gatekeepers who kept them (and their passing thoughts) well-protected from us regular schmos.

But Carrey appears to find his real-life version of "The Truman Show" hilarious, which isn't surprising considering he made a name for himself by talking out of his behind (hey, no judgment: We chuckled through "Ace Ventura").

"Sometimes I make an ASS of myself, yet I'm anything BUTT!" he punnily noted on Tuesday. "Thankyou g'night! (Hold for applause...wait for it... aaaaand fade to black."

So, what do you think? Are Jim's tweets just wacky or a mite worrisome? Tell us in the comments.
