Updating YSL's Heritage
Reaffirming the aggressive stance he has taken with design in his past three collections, Yves St. Laurent's Stefano Pilati played with the roomy draped jackets and combinations of layers and volumes that he has quickly made a signature, and that is anything but classic. In his cloths, colors, and overall sense of luxury, however, Pilati makes a respectful nod to the brand's rich fashion heritage.

Vuitton's Ever-Changing, Wearable Luxury
A dark new luxury was evident in a line almost exclusively in blacks and grays that blended sportswear and tailoring. It is all eminently wearable — a leitmotif of the season — yet Helbers's deft touches, such as adding discreet panels of leather or nylon to coats and jackets, or using cloths woven in one piece that shifted, in the case of one coat, suddenly from charcoal plaid to plain gray, made it a collection of unique essentials. This was precisely the sort of creative inspiration the market needs to get shopping again.
