Imogen Heap


Any music to which I can do a killer yoga or pilates workout, I am down for. And Imogen Heap is a gal who can inspire one impressive Standing Tortoise pose.

The Grammy-winning singer/songwriter has been on the music scene for a good fifteen years now, breaking out as half of the electronica group Frou Frou in 2002 and then taking a chance on her own a year later. She gained her biggest exposure when her song "Goodnight and Go" was featured in an episode of "The O.C." in 2004. Since then, the public has sat up and taken serious notice of the eccentric British songstress and her utterly unique sound. Indeed, her music is almost impossible to categorize in any recognizable genre, so I am going to make one up: "Indie-electroalternambient Pop."

Her music videos do her music a remarkable justice, being just as evocative visually as her songs are audibly - simple but elegant. To wit, the music video for her most recent single, "First Train Home" (from the album Ellipse):
