Things are definitely coming around again for the fashion world’s biggest style icon - Beth Ditto. It has just been confirmed that America’s 21st century punk goddess has virtually finished work on her second collection for the British high street chain Evans. And, true to form, the size 22 singer is treating the project as a magical mystery tour of her own wardrobe, where unconventional challenges the norm.
Evans’ head of design, Lisa-Marie Peacock, is due to fly to New York next week, to meet with Ditto, and finalise the pieces for her autumn/winter 2010/11 collection.
Ditto has been performing and touring all over the world in the last year, collecting inspiration in magpie-fashion from places as diverse as Japan and Australia, and all over Europe.
The result is, she promises, a mix and match journey through the decades. Victoriana ruffles will be juxtaposed with punk-plaid; 1940s, post-war prints, with the Noughties body-con look. It all sounds very eclectic and outrageous just like Ditto herself.
“This is a concept for girls with different styles, shapes and sizes. Beth wanted to make modernised versions of style through the years, to create a unique and mix-matching collection,” Lisa-Marie Peacock said.
The collection, in sizes 14 to 32, is due to hit the Evans stores in mid-September and Ditto is expected to make a series of personal appearances for the launch.
Ditto’s first collection for Evans was launched in July last year.
